Day3: MGM Studios
This is a fun place for young and old. See all the old movie greats, get behind the scenes (it's a working studio with everything from animation studios to over 2.5 million theatrical costumes), and witness upclose some spectacular stunt work and special effects.
"The Duke"
There are real studios at MGM where the audience can participate and interact with professional technicians. Katie had a chance to work with other soundtrack volunteers to provide some special effects for a sequence in 101 Dalmatians. But she was bummed out that they didn't choose her for the TV studio stand-ins next door....
Plenty of adventure and excitement, too. The "Star Wars" ride was a thrill without ever moving 10 feet (all simulation) and the entire audience jumped every time the 3-D movies (Muppets and "Honey I Shrunk the Audience") put something in front of your face. The special Disney touch is devices built into the theater seats that simulate everything from mice crawling past your feet to being sneezed on (just water) by a gigantic dog.
The grand finale...
was to see the Indiana Jones Stunt Show just at sunset. We had no idea the closing scene would look like this!
Dinner at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant. View those amazing 50's monsters and she-devils on the big screen while you dine. We were escorted to our "car" by a roller-skating hostess and had our dinner inside, under the stars, while we watched a life-size drive-in screen, complete with ads for the snack bar...
