With both beautiful residential neighborhoods and a thriving business community, Woodbury has enjoyed a population explosion this past decade. But this recent growth is only part of the story. Woodbury has actually been attracting residents for the past 150 years. The first settlers came to Woodbury in the early 1840s, drawn to its fertile, rolling farmland. First named "Red Rock Township," the town was later renamed "Woodbury" after Judge Levi Woodbury of New Hampshire, a friend of the first town board chairman. Incidently, Levi Woodbury never set foot in the area.

Today, commercial
development has helped maintain a strong community with a high quality of life, making Woodbury a
great place to live and do business!

Citizens of Woodbury enjoy four community parks: the Bielenberg Sports Center, Carver Lake, Ojibway and Tamarack Nature Preserve. Three of these parks are more than 120 acres in size! In addition, more than 40 miles of trails are available for hiking, biking, in-line skating, jogging and walking. Many trails link parks throughout the city.

Neighborhood parks are located close to where residents live. Most are small,
about 10 to 40 acres in size, and contain amenities such as ballfields, tennis
courts, paved trails, play structures and picnic tables.
Although much of Woodbury is residential, the city is also home to a diverse group of businesses, from large corporations to
small businesses and retail outlets.
One of Woodbury's major business victories came in November 1996, when State Farm Insurance opened its North Central Regional office on Radio Drive. State Farm quickly became the city's largest employer, with 1,350 employees. Just behind State Farm in jobs provided is Fortis, a commercial insurance company, located off 494.
Other major employers include: 3M Company, Rivertown Trading Co., EcoWater Systems and the Woodbury
Health Care Center.
