Located in the southern Twin Cities suburbs, Lakeville offers something for everyone! The combination of an extensive park system, award winning schools, employment opportunities, a variety of housing styles and a close proximity to the Twin City metro areas explains why Lakeville is one of the fastest growing suburbs south of the river.
The following history is from The Lakeville Convention and Visitors Bureau web site
Lakeville Township became an official governing unit in 1858, the same year Minnesota became a state. A town called Lakeville was soon established at Dodd Road and County Road 50. Bridge and road building and dispensing of justice were provided by a township government consisting of a chairman, clerk, treasurer, assessor, justice of the peace and constables.
By 1878, the community had grown so much that the village was allowed to incorporate with its own governing body. Six independent rural school districts and one town school formed a third governing body. These districts eventually merged after 100 years of independence, with some schools becoming part of Lakeville District 194 and others joining Farmington School District 192 and the then-Rosemount School District 196.
Finally, in 1967, 109 years after its original founding, Lakeville Township and Lakeville Village merged to form the City of Lakeville. Since then, Lakeville has grown from a small rural community to a dynamic suburban city of 36,000 where residents work together, as their pioneer ancestors did more than 100 years ago, to meet the challenges facing them today and in the future.

Park Facilities
Lakeville has more than 800 acres in 45 parks which include playgrounds, athletic fields, tennis courts, picnic and nature areas, and winter ice skating rinks.

Supervised swimming beaches are available in the summer at Antlers Park, Orchard Lake Beach and Valley Lake Beach.
For more information, call the Parks and Recreation Dept. at (952) 985-4600.

Lakeville School District #194 serves most of Lakeville, as well as parts of Burnsville and Elko and portions of the Eureka, Credit River and New Market Townships. Portions of Lakeville are also served by Rosemount School District #196 and Farmington School District #192.

It's close proximity to I-35 makes Lakeville a prime spot for retail and commercial development. There are several industrial developments including the Fairfield Business complex and the Airlake Industrial Park.

Lakeville is home to many major companies, including: Rosemount Office Systems, Merrilat Industries, Menasha Corporation, National Polymers, Despatch Industries, Grist Mill Inc., Rexam Flexible Packaging, Viking Acoustical, Ryt-way Industries, to name a few.

Because of Lakeville's rapid growth rate in recent years, there is much demand for new construction. But there is a wide variety of housing options available, ranging from older, rambler style homes to executive contemporaries, and everything in between.
For those who would prefer maintenance-free living, there are also a number of condominium, townhome and apartment complexes to choose from.
