Eagan: Home of the Lone Oak

In Eagan's early days, a tree now known as the Lone Oak Tree served as a communication center. Public notices and announcements were posted here as the town of Eagan developed around it. Today, the Lone Oak symbolizes the economic strength and solid growth of the present day city of Eagan. The tree was designated as a Minnesota Heritage Tree as a part of the State's bicentennial celebration, and a commemorative Oak Tree was planted on the corner of highways 149 and 55.

Did you know that Eagan was once known as the "Onion Capital of the U.S.?" That's right! In the late 1800's, onion farmers in Eagan shipped thousands of onions all over the country. Unfortunately, competition from southern onion growers and a few bad harvests soon took away this title. It nevertheless reflects Eagan's rich agricultural history.
